The Bachelor

Is it just me, or do they need to put a designated psycho on every season?

Texas A&M University is horrible

I make it no secret that I don’t approve of college sports (as they are today). There are lots of reasons, which I’ll go into later. However, my wife is a big college sports fan (particually, she’s a big corn husker) and Nebraska was playing up at Texas A&M so we went up.

The Texas A&M team is a disgrace to the game of baseball, and the Texas A&M fans were a disgusting. So, here is what happen.

What we did in college

This is something we made in college one night…

Week Mashup

the week is finally coming to a close, it’s been a very busy week. I really need some downtime, Michael is sick, and I have a sinus infection (swell). As usual, I have some downtime, and there is nothing on TV.

Sunday Mornings

Ahh…Sunday morning, it’s my favorite part of the week. We all just hang out in bed, playing with the kids, and using the laptop. Hopefully, this week will go smoothly, finish up a project or two, and we are adding someone to the AWD team. This will be our first time really adding a full time (or close to full time person). They are coming on as a contractor at first, and we’ll see how things go from there.

The joys of an audit

For those of you who don’t know, we are being audited in the coming weeks by none other than the IRS. It’s really not as bad as everyone makes it seems as long as you are able to show record of all the things you put on your tax return. So far I’ve learned this:
Be religiously organized. Putting all your papers in a box and sorting through it three years later to find a receipt is not fun. Now I’m starting a binder system where all receipts and statements are neatly sorted into binders so things are easy to find. I’m making a binder for each QB account that way I can easily follow all the transactions in QB and ensure we have receipts for everything. This effort is absolutely worth the effort wants it comes to filing your tax return or being audited.

I’m sure there will be more to share as the “interview” nears. Keep posted!

XiNCOM Twin WAN Router

2 words…freaking AWESOME! Last week I my cable modem went out, and let’s just say it was a bad situation. So I order a XiNCOM Twin WAN from NewEgg, it arrived and I hooked it up. The biggest feature is it has 2 WAN ports for 2 seperate broadband connections, and it internally runs something (I suspect HSRP)…anyway, if one provider fails, then the other takes over. So, there is no downtime on your lan. Pretty slick.

Life with no internet

Yesterday, from about 11am to about 3pm Time Warner decided to do maintenance on the cable modem infrastructure. I figure that they probably figured out with the “least” used time was, and did it then. Not so go. I am VERY reliant on having a fast stable internet connection, in fact I didn’t know how much I needed one until yesterday. However, I *also* learned that I need to have a stable one as well. So I took a look at the options (it’s a short list); T-1.

I can get a T-1 straight from the DC at a pretty reasonable rate. However, it still is pricy, and Teresa and I aren’t too fond of spending that much money. That being said we both see the need for that kind of connectivity. Teresa asked if there was a way to have a “backup” connection. Sure enough, there was, at a very reasonable price. I found the Twin WAN router from Xincom, this may be the perfect solution. It got some good reviews at NewEgg. Plus, it was very reasonable, and having a cable modem + DSL should provide a VERY stable connection. If not…off to T-1 land.

Once I get it, I will post my review on it.

NewsGator Go!

I couldn’t sleep, so (yet again) I’m up at 4am. *sigh*

Anyway, Newgator has released “Go!” for Java Based devices (like BlackBerry). So, I’m going to give it a try.

Update:
The OTA install worked really well. However, it doesn’t work. It says there is a network problem, and it switches to flight mode. I don’t know why it says that, I know everything is working because I have Google’s mail app running just fine on there. Things are not looking well for Go!, plus on a side note, I think the icon for it sucks…very hard to see on my screen.

Update 2:
Screw it. I’ve been trying to get it to work, and it’s not. I don’t really want to spend time trying to figure out why it won’t work. It’s funny, in the past I would have tried to diagnose it for hours, and get it to work. Now, I just don’t have the time/patience for that kind of stuff. If the product doesn’t work on of the box (after some VERY brief troubleshooting…that’s it…gone)
