Babylon ICK!

I’m surfing the web as DH watches Babylon 5. Ick… I hate this show. Although it comes in handy when you can’t sleep (puts you to sleep instantly!)

Nothing new really…. new year’s resolutions are coming up on us fast. I hate new year’s resolutions. I never keep them past January 3rd. This year I’m going to walking everyday with my neighbor. We have been doing well so far and it’s not even the first yet!

I better go I guess.

Smile!

What’s your definition of “adequate notice”?

Well, so here’s the short and skinny…

The data center that I use (for a variety of things), promised me that if I ever had to change my IP address that I would be given “adequate notice”. So I assumed that was AT LEAST 2 - 3 weeks. NOPE! Aparently, their definition of “adequate notice” is 4 DAYS!!!!! WTF!?!?!?!? 4 days….are they smoking crack! Especailly durring the holidays, I can’t even contact all of my clients…and the ones who I do have are scrambling to change them (as well as I am). Those bastards!!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!

Pre-marital Sex

Hmmm…in my “travels” across the net I have seen many, many things (some of which I wish I could forget). Anyway, I came across a blog that talked about Pre-marital sex. Okay…I’m curious…so I read…first, here’s the blog post…

You bet. I think the idea of being a virgin at your wedding had to do with the “quality” of the goods (including the dowry). Weddings used to be a business transaction. While I rank several things higher than the physical on the intimacy scale (psychological, emotional, spiritual, etc.), physical intimacy is important for a successful relationship. I fail to understand how two intelligent people who have genuine feelings for one another are somehow saying “fuck you” to their deity of choice by providing each other (and themselves) a little pleasure, accenting the connection between them, and dirtying up the sheets a bit. Oh, I can wait a long time before being physically intimate - as I said there are several kinds of intimate that rank higher - but “until the wedding night?” Too long.

Okay, class…let’s begin!

Let’s be short and sweet…the author states that there are several type of “intimacy”. with “physcial being important, but, not as important as “psychological, emotionals, spiritual, etc.”. Okay, well let me ask this question…
What can be more intimate/loving/special/etc. than telling your “betrothed”, that you waited for them? Now, the author could make that point that you are with “the one”, you’re just not married “yet”. Which brings us to question two…unless you’re married, how can you be sure that “she/he” is “the one”. How many “would-be” marriages ended about 5 minutes before the ceremony? Just my thoughts…I know that I can keep going (i.e. What about divorce?, etc.), but that’s out of the scope of this post.

Don’t get me wrong, I give the author “snaps” for rating “psychological, emotionals, spiritual, etc.” more than physical, I’m just trying to continue the thought process…

P.S. If any of the wordpress people are reading this…I have 2 words for you…SPELL CHECK!

DSL and Inlaws

Well, the DSL seems to work…I wonder what happened? Oh, well. In laws are here…

The Conspiracy

I think SBC is out to cheat everyone out of what they’re paying for….. so what exactly is the difference between the cheap plan and the more expensive plan….. I’ll tell you the amount of money you get SCREWED. More to come…

SBC Tech Support

Okay, so I’m on the phone with SBC DSL Tech support/billing. Well, here’s the situation…I ordered the 768k/256k ADSL service. The download is about 1.2 Mbps, but the upload floats between 90 - 120k…obviously not what I paid for.

Okay, so I get on the phone with support and I tell “Karen” the problem.

She tell me that she needs to preform a “special test” called “ping”.

Right…

So she tells me that it returns 100%, so everything must be ok…

Ummmkay…so I decided to give her a quick networking tutorial…how, even if a ping returns 100% that it is refering to the “packet loss” and that only will tell you if the line is saturated. Okay, she tells me that she needs to talk to her supervisor…Ok, fine…

She comes back…sorry, we can’t do anything and that the “upload” of 256k is a “MAX” upload and that the range is 128k - 256k.

Huh? I tell her that I’m paying for 256k upload, and that’s what I expect. After listening to her obviously pre-canned responce, that the website where I ordered service didn’t say anything about a “range” or “max speed” (except for the download. Well, okay…she said I need to take it up with the billing department. I tell her the website said nothing about this…she said that they’re docs say that it is a range. I told her that the website is not displaying correct information…she says no. Ummmkay…

Enter “Bill” for the billing department, I explain the issue, and he says the same thing. They give me the pre-canned response…however, “Bill” does suggest several OS tweaks. He’s actually much more helpful than Tech support. He sends me back to support (PC support…I’m on a Mac).

Enter “Pam”. I tell her the issue, and tells me that she cannot help with a line test becuase I’m using a Mac…

WHAT THE HELL DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE…IT’S NOT AN OS ISSUE!!!!!!!!! So “Pam” insists that she transfer me.

Enter “Reggie”…he asks me to run a test and report the resuts. He doesn’t belive me. AHHHHH!!!!!!!!! So finally “Reggie” and I come to an agreement that I am in fact telling him the truth. So finally “Reggie” asks if I know the difference between upload and download, and the download is what I need to care about. ACTUALLY, I want the fast upload…I work on a lot of websites…and so I upload alot. So, after that little adventure in to “Stupid Tech land”, Reggie tells me that they don’t guaranty ANY speed up or down. That registered about a 9.5 bullshit scale. Sooooo…they just have different tiered plans for us morons who don’t know any better.

So after discussing that with “Reggie” he tells me that my speed is affected by the distance between the CO and my house, and I am too far away from the CO.

Okay, I’ll bite… “so how far am I?”

[Reggie]: I’m sorry we don’t keep that information in our records.

WTF…you tell me that is the problem, but you don’t actually know how far I am from the CO?!?!?!?!

I hung up on him….

More to come later in my adventures into “SBC Yahoo! sucks land”

Block Party

The combination of awesome neighbors, lots of rum and coke, and the game “catch phrase,” makes for one hilirous block party. A good time was had by all, I must say.

Rum and Coke

Mmmmm…rum and coke my new favorite.
